Mission
To provide a space for courageous, freedom-loving homeschool families who seek a counter-cultural lifestyle for their children to feel at home and loved; Where our children enjoy excellent educational opportunities and are encouraged to use their God-given gifts to start following their dreams.
Vision
Courage links arms with parents, instructors, and mentors who recognize the inherent value and dignity of every child as a whole, capable person made in the image of God. We love our children unconditionally and are committed to helping them seek wisdom and skills to pursue their calling in life so they may become courageous world changers.
Statement of Faith
We believe the Bible is the fully inspired and infallible word of God. We believe it is without error, in whole or in part, and represents the final authority in faith and practice.
We believe in the eternally existing Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten son, fully God and fully man; was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross, was resurrected in three days, and sits at the right hand of the Father.
We believe that all humans have sinned against God by nature and in action. We believe our salvation was paid for on the cross and that it is by grace alone that we are saved.
For our Dear Families
Our goal will always be to serve our local homeschool families seeking a cohesive, intimate community coupled with high-quality academic classes taught by talented instructors.
Courage offers a four-period, university model where you get to hand select each course your child takes. To foster a robust and unified homeschool community, Courage requires families to enroll full-time. This helps us provide comprehensive support to all our parents, children and teachers. In the event that a class is unavailable during one of the four periods, or if a child is not enrolled in a given period, we will have a Study Lounge available.
Due to it being a four-period full day, you are permitted to leave campus if you have a friend willing to be personally responsible for your children while you’re away. Courage requires families presence during Family Symposium (9:40-10am), Lunch (12:00-12:30), and from 2:30pm - 3:15pm.
In addition to the above:
Each family is expected to be self-governing. We do not desire to control or manage families.
We believe raising and educating our children is a blessing, not a burden.
We take our roles as homeschool parents seriously as we feel called to do this work and do not sit idly aside but take an active role every day in our children’s education and wellbeing.
To the best of our ability, ALL decisions are made for the best interests of the children.
All families are required to help clean at the end of the day in addition to serving in a volunteer role that best suits their interests and strengths. These volunteer roles are categorized and organized accordingly, allowing those who serve in more hands-on, daily roles to register for classes first.
Serving opportunities may include:
Set-up/tear-down
Hospitality / Snack Shop
Front-Lobby Security
Bringing supplies
Fundraising
Organizing Parenting Book Clubs, Workshops and Bible Study
Planning field trips
Planning exciting opportunities that serve our children (science fairs, plays, book clubs…etc.)
Spearheading community service opportunities for our families to take part in
The success of our community is directly tied to the level at which families are willing to serve. For this reason, part-time attendance and drop-offs are not allowed at this time. A parent will be on-site at all times with their children and will assist and help discipline their child as they see fit. We recognize our greatest ministry is through Word and deed to the children placed into our care.
Our policies and rules are for the purpose of creating an environment of safety, respect and order. We entrust each parent to cheerfully supervise their children accordingly.
We function as a co-operative effort. As such, we ask for all families to attend Family Symposium, Lunch and help with clean-up at the end of our days together.
We acknowledge that we all have limitations, weaknesses and blind spots and therefore, gossip is not welcome in our community. We are called to encourage and lift up others in all our communication. (Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29)
Leadership is a seasonal responsibility, is managed as a prayerful small group and may change from family to family throughout the various terms based on the needs of our community.
Decisions are made on a case-by-case scenario as a committee.
Our team strives to be as transparent about all operating functions and finances for our community. Have a question, just ask! (We cannot always guarantee you’ll like the answer, but we will be truthful and forthcoming as our mission and vision will guide all our group decisions).
We affirm that God created each person as male or female, and that marriage was designed by God to be a monogamous, lifelong, covenant relationship between one male and one female (Genesis 1:26-27, 2:18-25; Mark 10:2-9). Sexual intimacy was designed by God to occur only within the context of such a marriage (I Corinthians 6:18, 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4).
We serve as a place for Christ-like education in a respectful and professional atmosphere. Any form of romantic expression is not allowed on campus. Also, any vandalism or inappropriate use of language, violence, bullying, or physical affection, will not be tolerated and will be grounds for expulsion.
There are many worthy theories and philosophies to assist in the calling of home education. Courage was founded by leaders who relied heavily on the philosophies of Classical, Charlotte Mason and components of Waldorf and Montessori; however, our community is not limited to these theories. Teachers are free to pool from their own experiences, theories, and curriculums, as long as the Lord is glorified in the classroom and all instruction is in keeping with the Statement of Faith and a biblical worldview.
Collectively, we believe in holistic-minded health practices and that God made our bodies perfectly whole, capable and self-healing in His own image. We believe in living a faith-driven life versus a fear-driven life. Therefore, the current recommended childhood vaccination schedule and all childhood and adult vaccinations in general are against our belief system.
Classroom content is subject to final approval by the leadership.
Our community aims to help our children serve our community in meaningful ways and are always open to our families spearheading these opportunities!
“Love cannot remain by itself – it has no meaning. Love has to be put into action and that action is service.”
